July 4th in Crested Butte

There's no better place to spend the 4th of July than Crested Butte!

This year's July 4th celebration is a big one! Not only are we celebrating the US 250th birthday, it's Colorado's 150th. That makes this July 4th the sesquisemiquincentennial! Struggling to say it? We did, too. So we put it on a t-shirt to commemorate this special year.

This year's celebration will be a little different in other ways, too. With the fire department's move to their new location, the pancake breakfast will no longer be taking place. We have plenty of food vendors in Vendor Village at 3rd and Elk, which will open at 8:30am.

With last winter's low snowfall and this year's Stage 2 fire restrictions, the much-loved water fight will not be taking place. This means there will be no water in the parade this year. We ask that you please respect the fact that no water balloons, water cannons or buckets of water may be used on Elk. Not everyone wants to get wet, and we've had too many misses in the past with water balloons nearly hitting animals in the parade. Not to mention the fact that there are few things worse than scraping water balloon pieces off of hot asphalt. Please be respectful.

Fireworks, hosted by the Town of Mt. Crested Butte, have been cancelled this year due to fire restrictions. But there's still a great party lined up on the mountain for July 3rd!
